KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee (PRAIC) has completed a localized script to the Peace Region with Local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and educators.

Facilitators guide participants through an experiential 2 hour summarized version of historic events from pre-contact to colonization, up to how colonialism continues today, and its impact on all of us through an Indigenous lens.

The Blanket Exercise training supports both the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) and UN Declaration calls for action to help Canadians understand how colonization impacted people who lived here long before 1492, and explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, how this relationship has been damaged over the years, and how we can work towards reconciliation.

The Blanket Exercise shows us that we are together on this journey of reconciliation.

The Blanket Exercise walks through difficult experiences, such as Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop and other policies that have affected Indigenous peoples. But also shared strengths. An Elder led sharing circle helps to debrief and an opportunity to share.
